Optical Prisms

Corner Cube Prisms

Retroreflection with precise beam return and optical alignment.

Introduction

Corner cube prisms are optical prisms with three mutually perpendicular reflecting surfaces that form a corner-like structure. When incident light enters the prism, the internal geometry redirects the beam back toward its original direction through multiple internal reflections, creating a precise retroreflection effect.

Unlike conventional mirrors, corner cube prisms can return incident light toward its source even when the prism is slightly tilted. Also known as retroreflector prisms, they provide stable beam return performance with minimal dependence on the prism orientation.

Applications

  • Laser ranging systems
  • Retroreflective measurement systems
  • LiDAR systems
  • Alignment and positioning systems

Features & advantages

  • Retroreflection design returns incident light toward the source direction
  • High angular stability with reduced alignment requirements
  • Maintains optical alignment without requiring precise orientation control
