Introduction
Off-axis parabolic mirrors are reflective optical components formed from an off-axis section of a parent paraboloid. Their parabolic surface can focus collimated light to a defined focal point, or collimate light from a point source, while avoiding the spherical aberration associated with spherical focusing mirrors.
Because the optical axis and focal region are displaced from the incoming beam path, OAP mirrors provide unobstructed access to the focus and simplify the integration of sources, detectors, and other optical components. This geometry is especially useful in systems requiring precise beam control without placing hardware directly in the incident optical path.
