Optical Mirrors

Metallic Mirrors

Broadband metallic reflection across UV to infrared wavelengths

Introduction

Metallic mirrors are reflective optical components coated with thin metal layers such as aluminum, silver, or gold to provide broad spectral reflectance across different wavelength regions. Unlike wavelength-selective dielectric mirrors, metallic coatings maintain useful reflection over a much wider spectral range, making them well suited to broadband and multispectral optical systems.

The choice of metal coating depends on the required operating spectrum and environmental conditions. Aluminum is commonly used for UV to visible applications, silver provides strong visible and near-infrared reflectance, while gold is particularly effective in infrared systems. Protective or enhanced coating layers can also be applied to improve durability and extend coating performance.
