Introduction
Zinc selenide is well suited to infrared lens designs because of its broad spectral transmission and low absorption, particularly around the 10.6 μm CO₂ laser wavelength. ZnSe lenses can therefore focus and shape infrared beams while limiting unnecessary energy loss within the optical element.
Compared with many infrared materials, ZnSe combines useful optical transparency with relatively low absorption in high-power laser systems. This makes it especially valuable for lens designs where thermal loading, beam quality, and efficient delivery of CO₂ laser energy must be considered together.
