Introduction
Right angle prisms are optical prisms with two perpendicular surfaces and a 45° diagonal face, designed to redirect light by 90° through reflection or total internal reflection (TIR). They are widely used for folding optical paths, changing beam direction, and replacing mirrors in compact optical assemblies.
The internal geometry of a right angle prism allows incident light to be redirected while maintaining high optical efficiency and mechanical stability. When the hypotenuse face is used for total internal reflection, the prism can provide efficient beam deviation without additional reflective coatings. For applications requiring enhanced reflectivity or specific wavelength performance, reflective coatings can also be applied.
